MILITARY EXPERIENCE. A PERSONAL COMMITMENT.
Meet Dr. Kelly Harvey.
Her pilots call her Xena.
Dr. Harvey's aviation medicine career began as an Air Force Flight Surgeon, assigned to and serving alongside the aviators of operational bomber and fighter squadrons. She later served as Chief of Flight Medicine and acting Chief of Aerospace Medicine in the Air National Guard.
Her experience extends well beyond the examination room. She has flown in high-performance military aircraft, bombers, transports, and aerial refueling tankers. Her military aviation training included flight physiology, hypoxia training in the altitude chamber, 9-G qualification in the centrifuge, and mishap investigation. She also served as a member of an Aircraft Investigation Board, further broadening her experience in aviation safety and the operational demands of flight.
In addition to her aviation medicine background, Dr. Harvey has nearly 20 years of experience practicing Emergency Medicine. That experience has strengthened her clinical judgment and given her a broad perspective on the medical conditions that can affect FAA certification.
Throughout her military career, she developed a deep appreciation for the responsibility entrusted to a Flight Surgeon: not only understanding the medical standards of aviation, but also the people whose careers depend on meeting them.
Today, she brings that experience and perspective to FAA medical certification examinations for pilots and air traffic controllers at Cleared Hot Aviation Medicine.
